Hi Awesome Parents!
Salt and light, they don't have a lot in common. One thing they do have in common is this...it is obvious if they are missing. I am a popcorn fanatic, I love it! I prefer it with some salt (not as much as some folks though). Boy, I can tell right away if it doesn't have any salt. I won't eat that. If I go to the movies, I bring my own salt, just in case. And light? Have you ever been in a cavern when they tuned the lights out? Wow! That is dark. there are no stars to provide a little light. It seems your eyes will never adjust to that darkness. Of course they don't really give your eyes time to adjust before turning the lights back on. In our lesson this week the kids will learn that THEY are like salt and light. Jesus asks His followers to be salt and light so the people who don't know Him will see something different and attractive in those who do. Our salty flavor has to be strong enough that folks notice it, but not so strong that they are repulsed by it. Our light needs to shine even when things are going poorly because that's when folks will be looking. Actually, we need to reflect Jesus' light. In John 8:12 and 9:5 Jesus tells us He is the light. There can be no better light than Jesus. Our lesson comes from Matthew 5: 13-16. Our point is to help them understand that we help others see Jesus. Please read these verses with the little ones. If you have time this week let them try something that is normally salty without salt. Show them what happens when you put a basket over a light in a dark room. Help them understand how important they are and what would happen if none of did what we were supposed to do to attract others to Jesus. Blessings! Mr. Chuck Hi Parents!
As I write this our internet is down. I'm waiting till ACS opens so I can report my problem. When I called yesterday evening the recording told me to look up their web site to report a problem with my internet connection...DAH! I am hoping to remember to save this in drafts and send it at a later time. Praise God that my connection with Him never breaks and He is never off duty. Oh, my connection may be a bit static-filled because of my sin, but it will never be His fault and He will always hear when I call out to Him. Our lesson this week focuses on Jesus being our friend. It troubles me to think of Him as my buddy, He is King, He is God, He is my Savior! At the same time I know He would love to walk with me in my neighbor's field. He would love to sit across the table and help me study and prepare for our lesson. I love the verse in the song As The Deer, "You're my Friend and You are my bother even though You are a king." Our story is about the first men to follow Jesus; Andrew, John (most likely), and Peter. How quick Andrew realized who Jesus was! Please read John 1:35-42 as a family and begin talking about this. I like verse 36. John (the Baptist) knew his responsibility. He kept pointing people to Jesus, even his own followers, so they would follow Jesus. I pray you have a wonderful week. It is so good to see single digit temps again. Don't forget the attached activities! Blessings! Chuck |
