Parent Page, chapter 5

10/3/2016

Hi Parents!
Attached is the weekly parent letter for chapter 5. I hope you are finding these helpful as we walk through The Story together.

This chapter focuses on the Ten Commandments for my kids up to grade 3, and on the commandments and Tabernacle up to grade 6. There is much more detail in the adult version. (And a whole lot more in the Bible) I'll bet the teen version falls somewhere in the middle of the 6th grade and adult versions. God has called His people to be special and set apart. There are many, many rules for them to follow to help them. (they help show we can't be Holy like God is Holy) There are also sacrifices to clear the way after wrong doing. We are also set apart for God. We don't have a lot of rules to follow but we still sin more often than we like to admit. God provided the one sacrifice we need to clear us for all eternity. Have you accepted that sacrifice? I pray you are not going through life thinking you can get there any other way. Can people look at you and your family and see something different? That's what God wants, that's what He wanted from the Israelites.

I like the way the Ten Commandments are written in The Story for Children:
How we relate to God...
  1. God is number one. There is no other god except our God.
  2. Praise God every day and only worship Him. There is nothing else worth worshiping.
  3. Always use respectful words when you speak about God.
  4. Have one special day a week to rest and praise God.
How we relate to each other...
  • Honor your father and mother. Obey them, answer them when they call, be kind to them, and always show love toward them.
  • Be kind to everyone. It is wrong to hurt another person because everyone is special to God.
  • Husbands and wives must be loyal to each other, showing kindness always.
  • Do not steal. Respect the belongings of others.
  • Always tell the truth. Sometimes it is hard, but it's always the right thing to do.
  • Be happy with what you have. Do not wish for things that belong to other people. Everything you have is a blessing from God.

Have a wonderful week and please remember to talk as a family about the things you are learning.
God bless you and your families!!!
Mr. Chuck
